As we all know, URL names containing search relevant keywords are very SEO friendly.
However, exactly for this reason, many "good" URLs are taken. So the next best solution for newer sites' owners is to find longer-tail keywords. No problem with that, in principle, as long as URL lengths don't get out of hand.
But if you actually look closely at URLs displayed on SERPs, you are going to come across a number of domain names that are super-hyphenated (or, worse, "glued together" from many words), followed by file paths 10 miles long.
Yes, you could argue that such URLs are better for SEO than irrelevant names. But they do look ridiculous and are also mistake-prone for typing into the browser.
We recommend that you create a similar but much shorter URL instead. Such a domain name might contain just part of the desired search term, plus another useful expression to make it memorable. You'll have then gained a smart, easy to remember URL and can make up for the "loss" of total keyword-relevance by creating a very sharp, relevant Title tag and by following the other important Organic SEO guidelines.
Remember: URLs are only part of the big SEO picture. If you have done everything else right, you are unlikely to lose SERPs. |
