Meta Tag Descriptions

While Meta Keywords were all the rage eternities (i.e.: 10+ years) ago, they have now lost 99% of their importance. It's a pity many SEO people think Meta Descriptions are treated the same way. We see articles by colleagues in effect saying that Meta Descriptions are, well, not important.

Not quite. Yes, a Meta Description is, of course, much less important than a good Title, but it does have some significance.

Meta Descriptions are the first impression a searcher will get of your website (Titles are, far too often, nonsensical as they are overstuffed with SEO-driven keywords). If it's well written and arouses curiosity, or answers potential questions, a good Description can have some meaning.

So, spend a bit of time on your Meta Descriptions. It might be a good idea.
