Pay-per-click is considered a strong traffic generator, i.e. a tool that will drive traffic to the advertisers' sites. Well, that's only partly accurate. Research has shown that on the average search results page, over 80% of searchers will click on the organic search results, with the remainder (less than 20%) clicking on PPC ads.
This is a suprising finding which might be explained with users' subliminal concerns that clicking on paid ads would cost the searcher, or that advertisers might collect user data. SEO Trump's own research shows that clicking on organic results give the searcher more satisfaction as they feel confirmed in their search skills.
Organic results, therefore, have advantages over PPC in this respect. What is true, however, is that PPC delivers targeted clicks that can be superior to organic results clicks with the right PPC strategy. Bottom line: start with SEO, then proceed to PPC. |
